We’ve been loving the idea of ready-to-eat “packet meals” on our day hikes or first day of backpacking trips. These are quick and easy to prepare at home, and take away all the prep time needed for your trail lunch. If you’re trying to make the most of a quick weekend before the snows come, […]
Ever since I moved away from my best friend in Florida to go west, we’ve talked about meeting up in a cool place halfway between us for an adventure.
It’s been a hiking kinda summer. In the last year or so, a hiking group has naturally formed which we’ve named Trailchuggers. It’s a silly name but it’s something to hang on to and it motivates us to coordinate 5 different schedules so we can get outside and have an adventure together.
We’re going to Banff in a few weeks, and I’m starting to get really excited about the possibility of seeing grizzlies, moose, caribou, wolves, and the insane wilderness of the Canadian Rockies! My excitement is reminding me that I’m in charge of the food for 4 people, and I better get prepping.

At the end of May we had the pleasure of being part of Aspire2Be fundraising effort as a sponsor. Aspire2Be is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering young women through […]
I recently bought a cookbook called Feedzone Portables, literally, by looking at it’s cover. There is a picture of little portable packet meals, and I realized that this is a type of meal that is really worth focusing on. We take a lot of climbing day trips or quick overnighters whenever we can get away […]
When I’m not busy having fun with Dirty Gourmet, I’m having fun teaching classes at Art Center College of Design. One of the many perks of teaching is keeping up-to-date with latest and greatest trends through my students and colleagues.
People who work for schools have the life. Wes has been on summer break for a few weeks, and has spent many days hiking and climbing in Joshua Tree, the San Bernardino National Forest, and Red Rock State Park.
